The five of us have all studied and worked in creative roles across Medway. We were part of the creative community at the University for the Creative Arts’ Rochester campus until its closure — a loss that deeply affected both local artists and the wider community. Since then, we’ve each found new roles elsewhere, but it’s clear that Medway suffered from the disappearance of the facilities, training opportunities, and creative networks that once thrived here. Many local people simply can’t travel to London or Canterbury to access similar resources due to cost or caring responsibilities. While there are fantastic creative projects already happening in Medway, there is still no dedicated makerspace — a shared, properly equipped space where people can create, collaborate, and learn. We have the experience needed to make this happen: from managing studios and specialist equipment to teaching and supporting artists. Most importantly, we are all local artists who care deeply about rebuilding and sustaining Medway’s creative community
